A coronial inquest is unlike any other court proceeding clients may face following a workplace death. It is an inquiry led by a coroner that seeks to find out why the death occurred, and its findings may include recommendations to help prevent similar deaths. For this reason, inquests allow for a range of ‘interested parties’ to appear at the proceeding and is more flexible than other jurisdictions in relation to rules of evidence.
Dreher Legal has advised and represented both corporate and individual clients during coronial investigations and inquests under various state jurisdictions. We advise clients on the unique issues that arise during the coronial process, assist them in their applications for leave to appear as an interested party and provide advice and representation during the course of the inquest.
